According to reports, Ousmane Dembele has now agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain, despite interest from Tottenham and Newcastle.
Well, this is bad news for Antonio Conte and Eddie Howe.
The Spanish news outlet believe the £135.5m winger has agreed to team up with Mauricio Pochettino in Paris, with his contract at Barcelona set to expire in June.
AS state that Barcelona are convinced Dembele has an agreement in place with PSG, despite his recent upturn in form following a revival under Xavi.
In his last five La Liga outings, the 24-year-old has provided seven assists.
The arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – his old friend from their Borussia Dortmund days – also seems to have aided his resurgence.
It was Foot Mercato who revealed that Spurs and the Magpies are keen to sign Dembele when he becomes a free agent in June.
Now, they may have a big problem in store, as PSG and all their financial power appear to have won the battle.
In our view, this isn’t a major problem for the Premier League duo.
Overall, Dembele has been poor since his record-breaking move from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
In 139 appearances for Barcelona, the France international has only scored 32 goals, while also taking home £287,000-a-week.
For the money it took to sign Dembele, he has been a disappointment.
Therefore, there’s nothing to suggest he would perform any better in the Premier League, a notoriously difficult division to adapt to.
For that reason, Tottenham and Newcastle shouldn’t worry too much.
