There has been a lot of chatter surrounding the future of Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets as his contract with the club expires at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old has been a top player for Barcelona for almost 15 years now, but given his contract situation, there is a lot of uncertainty around his next move.
But, according to Depredict, Busquets is now prioritising a stay at Barcelona even though he had considered the possibility of moving to the MLS in the past.
Indeed, reports had suggested that the midfielder was assessing the prospect of leaving the club in the January window itself, amidst strong interest from Inter Miami.
But it did not materialise as Xavi Hernandez & co. seemingly convinced the club legend to stay put, given his importance within the team.
Over the past few matches, Busquets has been displaying his best form, especially when playing alongside Frenkie de Jong and Pedri. The report states that the 34-year-old believes he can continue to perform at this level for one more season.
So, while he will receive important proposals, like the €18 million per year offer from Al Nassr, but Busquets will prioritise staying at Barcelona.
The club, for their part, are planning to offer Busquets a one-year contract with a significant salary reduction, which is understandable given their issues with the Financial Fair Play problems.
Manager Xavi is pushing the club to renew his captain as he is aware that signing a replacement for him in the summer in the current financial situation will be extremely difficult. So, the La Liga leaders are expected to make a move to offer him a new contract soon.
Busquets, for his part, believes that there is no better place for him than Barça. But his agents continue to listen to proposals from the MLS and Saudi Arabia, while waiting for an offer from the Catalans.
Both parties want a resolution at the earliest and it remains to be seen how things pan out in the coming weeks.
