With the summer transfer window starting to appear on the horizon, plans are underway at FC Barcelona to enjoy another successful trading period after last year’s triumph when they signed players like Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha.
But, things have been made tricky by the fact that the Blaugrana are facing issues with La Liga Financial Fair Play rules and will need to make major cuts to their wage budget if they are to sign and register new players.
Heading into the summer, another striker seems to be very high on the agenda at Camp Nou, with president Joan Laporta confirming as much in a recent media interaction.
The Blaugrana reinforced the attack with the signings of Lewandowski and Raphinha last summer. Prior to that, they had brought in the likes of Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Adama Traore (loan), although the latter two are no longer at the club.
Yet, there remains a feeling that Barcelona could do with more goals from their forwards as it is Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Ousmane Dembele that have carried the major burden of goals this term.
So, a new forward is likely to be brought in, with Vitor Roque the likeliest option. But for that, the Catalan giants will need to create room by selling players and according to MARCA’s Mari Carmen Torres, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati have the highest chances to leave this summer.
Fati has endured a torrid campaign so far despite having completely recovered from his injury ordeals. The 20-year-old has found it hard to break into Xavi’s plans on a regular basis and when given an opportunity, he has largely overwhelmed.
While the manager and the president have publicly maintained that the La Masia graduate is not for sale, in the background it seems as if Barcelona could be open to offers for Fati should they arrive.
As for Torres, his form has dwindled after a good start to life at Barcelona last year. While he has shown some spark of late, the former Manchester City ace has not been consistent or impactful enough to justify the massive investment made in signing him.
Considering that his returns have been below par and that he still has admirers in the Premier League, it would not come as a surprise to see Barcelona parting ways with the Spaniard should suitable offers arrive.
