Kingsley Coman Had Offered Himself To Barcelona Before Signing A New Contract

Barcelona raided Bayern Munich last summer for the signing of Robert Lewandowski and are reaping the rewards as the Poland captain has become an instant success at Spotify Camp Nou, helping the club rise to the top of the La Liga standings.

Prior to signing Lewandowski, though, Barcelona could have landed yet another player from Bayern Munich in the form of Kingsley Coman.

Indeed, according to Roger Torello of Mundo Deportivo, Coman had offered himself to Barcelona before he signed a new contract with the German champions back in January 2022.

The French winger was involved in a contract dispute with the Bavarian giants and, at one point, looked likely to leave.

As per the report, the former PSG ace’s father spoke to Barça to let the club know of the player’s desire to wear the Blaugrana colours.

Barcelona, for their part, looked at a possible deal very favourably at the time as the Ousmane Dembele contract saga was at its peak at the time and the club looked set to part ways with the French international.

In such a scenario, Coman would have been a solid replacement for him and hence Barcelona were appealed by the idea of signing him.

However, any move was paralysed by the winger’s wage demands as he sought a contract worth around €11 million per year. Barcelona were in no position to pay that much due to the club’s new wage structure as well as La Liga’s salary limit issues.

Eventually, Coman ended up renewing his contract with Bayern Munich on January 12, 2022, reportedly penning a deal worth a massive €17 million per year.

Things worked out well for Barcelona, too, as Dembele soon recovered his best version under Xavi Hernandez and signed a new contract until 2024, while the Blaugrana also roped in Raphinha last summer to add more quality and depth in the wide areas.
