Aljamain Sterling: Faith, Religion And Ethnicity

Fans know Aljamain Sterling’s inside the Octagon game, but on the outside, fans wonder about the divine inspiration behind his winning ways.

He grew up in Uniondale, New York, to Jamaican parents, Cleveland and Sophia Sterling.

Due to being a minority in a white world, the Sterling conditions weren’t that liveable, and his siblings were into violent activities.

So to avoid that life, Aljamain joined wrestling at Uniondale High School in 2004 and later enrolled at Morrisville State College.

During this, he met Jon Jones, the UFC fighter, who invited him to his gym, The Bomb Squad, in Ithaca, New York.

From there, Aljamain only aimed to go higher in life and achieved #6 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings on April 11, 2023.

He also competed for Cage Fury Fighting Championship and is the former Cage Fury Fighting Championship Bantamweight Champion.

Aljamain was born on July 31, 1989, to his Jamaican parents, Cleveland and Sophia Sterling.

He was born into a big family of seven blood-related siblings and 12 half-siblings.

Among these, only two siblings’ name is revealed; Troy Sterling, a mixed martial artist who fights in the Bantamweight division in Ultimate Fighting.

The other is Kevin, Aljamain’s half-brother, an MMA fighter, in the sixth position of 18 dynamic New York Genius Bantamweights.

He loves his mother and puts up a post every Mother’s Day with a thank you note for supporting him.

Although not much information is available on the sources regarding the fighter’s other family members, it is evident that he loves them.

Aljamain has a fiancee Rebecca Cruz, a beauty and fitness guru with more than 9k followers on her Instagram handle.

On Jan. 2, 2021, he proposed to Rebecca, his 10 years long-term girlfriend, for their 10th anniversary of dating.

The couple is not married or blessed with any kids, but the possibility of it happening seems soon.

UFC Bantamweight Championship

Aljamain, an underrated fighter, was the first to win the UFC bantamweight division championship by disqualification in 2021.

He defended his title with Petr Yan in a rescheduled match at UFC 273 on April 9, 2022.

According to the UFC site in 2023, the Funk Master is scheduled to face Henry Cejudo on May 6, 2023, at UFC 288.
