Andreas Christensen Ruled Out Of Copa Del Rey Clasico With Injury

Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is set for a brief spell on the sidelines after sustaining a calf injury on international duty with Denmark.

A report from Diario AS suggests that the Danish centre-back will be ruled out of action for up to four weeks, meaning he will not play in next month’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.

It also looks uncertain whether Christensen will be able to recover for La Liga’s home game against Atletico Madrid on April 23.

It will be a huge setback for the Blaugrana, provided that Christensen has been one of their best players and also among the best defenders in La Liga.

Arriving from Chelsea on a free transfer last summer, the 26-year-old has nailed down a regular place in the starting eleven while also putting on stellar displays on a consistent basis.

On the downside, Christensen has already missed a chunk of games this season due to injury, and the latest blow comes at a crucial time for Barca.

Barca have established an 11-point lead at the top, and they only have 12 games left in La Liga this season.

The chances of adding another trophy(Copa del Rey) are now at risk due to the growing injury list ahead of the Clasico next month.

Ousmane Dembele and Pedri have been both ruled out of the contest against Los Merengues, and things have now seemingly got worse with Christensen’s absence, while there are concerns over the fitness of Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo.

Barca manager Xavi will have to turn to Eric Garcia and Marcos Alonso in the absence of Christensen.
