Earlier this week, Jorge Mendes, the agent of Barcelona forward Ansu Fati, met with the youngster’s family as well as club president Joan Laporta to discuss his future.
The 20-year-old wonderkid has endured a steep fall in stature at Spotify Camp Nou this season. From being the face of the new-look Barcelona team post the Lionel Messi era, Fati has become a benchwarmer under Xavi Hernandez this season.
In fact, if reports are to be believed, Fati could be sacrificed in the summer so that Barça can facilitate the return of Messi this summer.
Following the meeting with Mendes, though, Ansu’s father stated that he expects his son to stay put in the summer.
And, according to AS, Fati, too, remains firm on his stance of not wanting to leave Barcelona in the summer. But, the La Liga leaders want to sell the La Masia graduate.
As per the report, Fati’s message to Mendes, when he dined with the superagent on Tuesday, was clear and resounding, he wanted to stay at Barcelona and succeed at the club.
Despite his struggles this season, the Spaniard is confident that he will return to his best version next season, once he fully overcomes the physical problems he has had in the recent past.
As such, Mendes conveyed the same message to the Blaugrana officials on Wednesday while not presenting the club with the offers that he had received for the young forward.
Barça, though, are in an iffy situation due to their Financial Fair Play mess and need to make player sales. Since Ansu is a homegrown player, any transfer fee that would be received would be written down as net profit in the books.
Furthermore, he is garnering interest from some big clubs in the Premier League, which increases the chances of fetching a big fee.
However, Ansu does not want to consider that possibility. With the summer transfer window not very far away, and Barcelona needing to make a big sale before June 30 itself, only time will tell whether they retain Fati or decide to part ways with him.
