Atletico Madrid Open Talks With Tottenham To Sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Atletico Madrid have opened talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to the Daily Mail.

The Danish international wants to join the La Liga club for the prospect of playing Champions League football next season.

The 27-year-old has been a regular for Spurs since joining, but he could leave the club this summer.

Hojbjerg is open to moving to the Spanish capital after three years with Spurs, in which he made 145 appearances. He has bagged 16 goals and 45 assists during his time in London.

Hojbjerg also has interest from Germany. Bayern Munich are looking for a defensive midfielder and have set their sights on him.

Hojbjerg joined Bayern in 2012 from Brondby IF as a youngster and represented them before moving to Southampton in 2016.

However, Atletico are more advanced with their deal. Los Rojiblancos manager Diego Simeone is pushing the club to secure the player’s signature.

New Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is looking to revamp his squad and is open to letting Hojbjerg leave.

Tottenham have Oliver Skipp, Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentacur to fill in for Hojbjerg.

There are rumours that Tottenham rejected an offer from Napoli for Tanguy Ndombele. Postecoglou is willing to give him a second chance.

Hojbjerg could be Tottenham’s second midfield departure following the exit of Harry Winks to Leicester City in the Championship.

Tottenham have signed James Maddison from the Foxes and Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli. Dejan Kulusevski has also joined permanently from Juventus.

It is unclear how much Spurs will demand from Atletico for Hojbjerg, but they will want fair compensation for an experienced player with two years left on his deal.
