Barcelona And Real Madrid Showing Interest In Chelsea Defender

Reece James has suddenly emerged as a hot prospect in the transfer market, with Real Madrid, in particular, reportedly keen on securing his services at the end of the season.

Because of Chelsea’s transfer activity in January, the club are facing immense pressure to offload some of their star players in the coming summer, if they are to balance their books ahead of the new season.

One of the players that could be offloaded is Reece James, with reports suggesting he could be available for a fee as low as €50 million. This serves as an excellent market opportunity for European giants, with Real Madrid among the potential destinations.

However, as pointed out by Gerard Romero, it appears Real Madrid are not the only Spanish giant keeping tabs on Reece James, with Barcelona also involved in the chase.

Talking about the Englishman’s future, Romero said, “Keep an eye on Reece James. There are people at Barça who get instant emotions.”

There is no secret that Barça are keeping tabs on Chelsea ahead of the coming summer, with the club targeting at least three players from Stamford Bridge. One of them could be Pierre-Emerick Aubamaeyang, as a potential alternative to Vitor Roque.

N’Golo Kante and Cesar Azpilicueta are also options for the Catalans, as they look to reinforce their options all around the park.

But it appears even Reece James is now a target for Barça, who are reportedly keen on signing a new right-back next season. The club have been linked with moves for Diogo Dalot, Benjamin Pavard and Juan Foyth among many others.

However, a player like Reece James could be an ideal fit as the Englishman bags loads of experience at the highest level. He is also quite versatile and is capable of operating in a back three as well, making him the ideal fit for coach Xavi Hernandez.

That said, even a fee of just €50 million could prove to be tricky for Barcelona to afford and it will not come as a surprise to see the Blaugrana prioritise a move for Azpilicueta instead.
