Barcelona Are Considering Signing A New Right-Back, But Not As A Priority

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on Barcelona’s search for a new right-back this coming summer.

The report points out that Barça are in the market for a new right-back, but it is not one of the club’s priorities. Instead, the club are focusing on re-signing Lionel Messi while completing deals for Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan. Signing an alternative for Robert Lewandowski has also emerged as a priority, with Vitor Roque one of the top targets.

Barcelona have made efforts to find a new right-back. They have several options listed as well, such as Juan Foyth, Diogo Dalot, and Jeremie Frimpong, among others. However, the club are specifically looking for a low-cost option.

It is no secret the Catalans are in an economic crunch right now, with La Liga advising them to reduce €200 million from their salary budget. The club have recently sent their Financial Feasibility Plan to La Liga, expecting a response in the early weeks of May.

With the Blaugrana unsure of their limits in the market, low-cost options are a priority, especially as far as right-backs are concerned.

Although the club have not made a right-back a priority in the coming summer, there is an essential need to strengthen the position.

Their shortcomings were exposed in the recent defeat to Rayo Vallecano, where Jules Kounde struggled to perform, forcing Xavi to deploy Alejandro Balde in the position.

But for the time being, Barcelona insist that the versatility of Jules Kounde, Sergi Roberto, and Ronald Araujo will be adequate, at least until the club figure out their limitations in the market, ahead of the coming summer.
