Barcelona Finalising Their Contract Offer For Messi, Will Send It To La Liga For Approval

Even though the transfer window is still some way away, Barcelona are stepping up the ante in their pursuit of former captain and club legend Lionel Messi.

The 35-year-old is set to become a free agent in the summer, with his contract at PSG expiring. And Barça wish to facilitate a return for their icon, who was forced to leave the club due to poor circumstances.

For that to happen, though, the Blaugrana need to address their Financial Fair Play problems so that they can register Messi successfully.

And, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are finalising their contract offer for Messi and will soon send it to La Liga for it to be reviewed and approved. Once that process is complete, they will officially table the proposal to the Argentine’s father/agent, Jorge Messi.

The report states that Barça could submit their plan to re-sign Messi to the league as early as today itself and it might not take much time for them to receive a response either.

La Liga president Javier Tebas indicated in his press conference yesterday that he would welcome Messi’s return to the league, but insisted that he would not change the FFP rules to make it happen.

But there is a lot of optimism within the Barcelona camp about receiving approval from the league over their economic viability plan which would allow them to register Messi should they re-sign him.

As per reports, Barcelona would want to offer Messi a two-year contract until 2025 as it would give him a chance to play at the brand new Spotify Camp Nou once the renovations are complete.

The Catalans will be playing the next season at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium before returning to their home turf for the 2024/25 season.

Furthermore, a contract until 2025 would also mean that Messi would be able to participate in the club’s 125th-anniversary celebrations, which are being planned for the end of 2024.

Barcelona are convinced about re-signing Messi as they believe it would be a big boost for the club both in a sporting aspect as well as on the financial front.
