Jordi Alba Keen To Remain At Barcelona Despite Lack Of Game Time

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba is eager to remain at the club as he approaches the final year of his contract.

Since joining the La Liga giants from Valencia in 2012, Alba has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell, winning 16 major honours.

The 34-year-old was a regular feature in his first decade as a Barca player but the emergence of Alejandro Balde over the last 18 months has left Alba playing second fiddle.

Alba has made just 12 league starts this season and was an unused substitute in five of his side’s last eight matches across all competitions.

Nonetheless, the Spaniard sees his immediate future with Los Blaugrana, believing he can still contribute a lot without necessarily being on the pitch.

“I see myself here next year, I have not thought about anything other than continuing to play here for Barca and to keep winning trophies,” Alba said, as relayed by The Athletic.

“I can still give a lot more when I am playing – when not, I can help my teammates, which is what I am doing at the moment and that is important.

“Barca has given me so much [everything] when I was small and when I returned to the first team.

“I have enjoyed it so much and still enjoy it now. Playing for Barcelona is the best place. I always want to win all the trophies I can.

“That is my mindset every time a season starts with Barcelona and it will be like that next year.”

Alba and Barcelona are on course to be crowned champions of Spain next month as they currently boast a healthy 13-point lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid with nine matches left to play.

Xavi Hernandez’s men will be looking to take one step closer to glory this weekend when Atletico Madrid visit Camp Nou.
