Barcelona Have To Wait Longer To Finalise The Signing Of Joao Cancelo

  • Barcelona will have to wait longer to finalise the signing of Joao Cancelo.

While it is confirmed that Joao Cancelo will be a Barcelona player this summer, it is going to take some more time for the team to make it official, reports SPORT.

Earlier it was suggested that Cancelo was due to travel to Barcelona on Thursday and complete his medical examination on Friday.

But as it turns out, the full-back has still not received the green signal to travel with Financial Fair Play checks delaying the process.

The La Liga champions are also yet to register three first-team players because of the FFP margin and as such, Cancelo’s signing is likely to take a little while longer.

Miracles happen, but not with Barcelona

Now, it is one thing that Cancelo could be in Barcelona at the end of the week, but any chances of Barcelona actually signing him and registering him by that time are next to impossible.

“It would be a miracle if it closes this weekend,” a club source was quoted by SPORT. Those at the club are convinced that the incorporation of the player could be done next week.

As such, sorting out the final details of the deal is also going to take some time. In this regard Barça will assume a large part of the Portuguese’s salary and City, on their part, will bear some.

Furthermore, the defender will also have a purchase option worth €25 million in his Barcelona contract.

The operation is set to conclude next week, coinciding with Barcelona’s anticipated receipt of the payment from the German Libero fund.

The availability of this funding is pivotal, as it directly impacts the club’s ability to enlist additional football players.

Undoubtedly, all involved parties are inclined to delay Cancelo’s arrival until his official registration with La Liga can be guaranteed.

Barcelona had explored the possibility of persuading Libero to expedite the payment scheduled for the month’s end. This move aimed to facilitate the timely registration of Marcos Alonso, thereby enabling his participation against Cádiz.

However, given the finalized nature of the contracts, effecting such alterations proved to be exceedingly challenging. Consequently, players who remain unregistered will need to exercise patience until a more equitable playing field is established.

Upon the successful completion of the impending payment, Cancelo’s incorporation into the Barcelona team will transform into a concrete reality.

This development will grant Xavi the services of the specialized player he has long coveted.
