According to Javi Miguel of AS, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is not planning on re-signing former La Masia wonderkid Xavi Simons in the summer transfer window.
Xavi Simons has been tipped for a bright future in the game for almost a decade now. The youngster joined the Barcelona youth academy back in 2010 and soon established a reputation for himself as the next best thing set to come out of the ranks.
However, in 2019, Simons decided to leave the Blaugrana and signed for PSG on a free transfer. The move to Paris did not pan out all too well as he made just 11 first-team appearances before leaving the club for PSV this past summer, again on a Bosman deal.
Since arriving in his homeland, Simons has started to showcase his immense potential, racking up a return of 16 goals and eight assists from 39 matches in all competitions for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side.
It has been widely reported that Barcelona are not entirely happy with their attacking options and will look to bolster their frontline in the summer.
And reports earlier today claimed that Simons was a ‘secret target’ of Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff. It was also stated that the 19-year-old prodigy is valued at €30 million currently.
However, as per the update from Javi Miguel, Simons is not in the transfer plans of manager Xavi Hernandez for the summer window.
Considering that his contract with PSV runs until 2027 and the numbers that he is accumulating, the Dutch giants would likely have demanded a much bigger sum than the aforementioned €30 million valuation.
And it is no top secret that Barcelona are not in a position to splurge heavily in the market this summer. With the focus being on other priority targets like Lionel Messi, Vitor Roque and Inigo Martinez, a move for Simons does not seem likely as things stand.
