Barcelona Still Keeping Tabs On Bayern Munich Right–Back To Reinforce Key Position

Benjamin Pavard has been long linked with a move away from Bayern Munich this coming summer, having faced criticism for his lack of consistency and failure to live up to his hype.

Barcelona, for a while, have been touted as one of the potential destinations for Pavard, who could be looking for a fresh challenge after experiencing a mixed season in Bavaria.

The Catalan club are in the market for a new right-back, though it is not necessarily a priority. The club did secure a new deal for Sergi Roberto, while the coaching staff insists the versatility of Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde could also pay off in the coming season.

However, according to SPORT1, Barcelona have not lost sight of their top right-back targets just yet, including Benjamin Pavard.

The German news outlet suggests Barça are still keeping track of Pavard’s situation at Bayern Munich, potentially looking out for a market opportunity.

The defender’s contract expires in 2024, meaning Bayern could offload him on a cut-price deal, if he does indeed leave the club. Although, club director Hasan Salihamidzic recently insisted that they wish to renew the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s contract.

Keeping in mind Xavi’s love for versatility, Pavard could be a useful option as he can operate as a right-back and a centre-back.

But at the same time, the Frenchman might not be a prudent option as he struggled at right-back at Bayern Munich. The player himself prefers playing as a centre-back, so it could be pointless to target him as a potential long-term solution to the right-back issue.

Barcelona, therefore, are better advised to look elsewhere, even though other options such as Juan Foyth and Diogo Dalot could end up costing a fortune.

To that end, the club could eye a move for Arnau Martinez – a cost-effective option that could prove to be a bargain for the Catalans this summer.
