Barcelona Transfer Target Does Not Want To Leave Current Club For Free In 2024

Dani Olmo is someone who has been associated with a move to FC Barcelona for a long time. Formerly of the famed La Masia academy, he was linked with a return to Catalonia even during his time at Dinamo Zagreb, though he eventually joined RB Leipzig.

More than three years after his decision to join the Bundesliga outfit, Olmo has continued to be linked with a move to Barça, with a recent report stating that the club are reportedly keen on a 2024 move for the Spanish international. The club had even urged the player not to renew his contract at RBL.

Olmo’s current deal at Leipzig expires in 2024, meaning he will be available as a free agent at the end of next season. Barcelona, to that end, are among the clubs looking for the right opportunity.

However, according to Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona’s move for Olmo in 2024 is not a possibility. Speaking to the Siempre Positivo podcast, the Spanish journalist has stated that Olmo is grateful to RB Leipzig and will not see out his contract at the Bundesliga club.

This means a potential exit from Leipzig for Olmo could take place either in the coming summer or in early 2024. A prolonged stay at the German club has not been ruled out, as the playmaker can still renew his contract.

Either way, it would be difficult for Barcelona to make an approach for the Spaniard, as the club are not in the right economic space to splurge a huge sum for an individual.

Given the way Olmo has performed for Leipzig – 20 goals and 24 assists in 112 matches – the Spaniard looks destined to cost a fortune, despite his relatively average 2022/23 campaign.

Therefore, Barcelona must look for other alternatives in their bid to sign a new playmaker, either in the coming summer or in 2024. One potential option is Ilkay Gundogan, who is available for a free agent at the end of the season.
