Barcelona Will Hold Talks With Xavi Over A New Contract At The End Of The Season

Xavi Hernandez has made a significant impact on the Barcelona squad since he arrived as the manager last season. At the time of his takeover, the Catalans sat ninth on the league standings and he guided them to a respectable second-place finish.

Today, the Blaugrana sit on top of the table with a 12-point gap lead over Real Madrid in La Liga and are 90 minutes away from a spot in the final of the Copa del Rey. Moreover, the young team has already tasted silverware in the Spanish Super Cup, giving Xavi his first trophy with Barcelona as the manager.

According to reports from MARCA, the Barcelona administration is very satisfied with the direction Xavi is taking the team. With the end of the season approaching, the management is discussing the possibility of renewing his contract.

Xavi’s current deal with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2024. The club wish to offer him a renewal for an additional season, but the details will only be discussed in June.

The same had been confirmed earlier by president Joan Laporta, who had hailed Xavi for the work he is doing while revealing his intentions to offer him a new contract.

With the La Liga title almost in the bag, those intentions have become firmer and a new deal will be discussed in June as per the report.

Laporta also wishes to reward Mateu Alemany, the club’s director of football, with a renewal as his contract expires next summer as well.

Through a combination of well-planned transfers and rigorous training, Xavi has made Barcelona a side capable of winning even against the best in the world.

There have been nights in Europe where the Catalans fell short, but the fact that they have beaten the defending European champions thrice this season speaks volumes about his work.

On the field, Barcelona’s possession style of football is back with an element of re-engineering to tailor it to the modern game. Further, the coach has also worked on the mental aspect of the players and made them believe in themselves even through adversity.
