Barcelona’s Operation To Re-Sign Lionel Messi Still Alive Despite Delay In Viability Plan Approval

Barcelona were dealt with a massive blow yesterday when Gerard Romero revealed La Liga’s delay in approving the Financial Feasibility Plan. The authority had reportedly asked Barça a few more weeks before they can formally approve the plan.

This was a massive setback for Barça, who are relying heavily on La Liga to give them the green light before they can make moves in the market.

The delay in getting approval could particularly affect Barcelona’s pursuit of Lionel Messi. The Argentine is expected to leave Parc des Princes at the end of the season. Barcelona are among the list of suitors for the 35-year-old, who himself harbours the hope of returning to Camp Nou.

However, with Messi also receiving lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, time is certainly running out for Barcelona, especially without La Liga’s approval.

But according to Alex Pintanel, Barcelona’s operation to re-sign Messi is still on and the club have no intention to back off anytime soon, despite La Liga delaying the approvals.

However, it is true that without formal approval, Barça might not be in a position to propose an official offer to the table. They can, in the meantime, focus on player sales, given the fact that it is going to be the biggest source of revenue for the club.

Indeed, selling unwanted stars could go a long way in helping Barcelona reduce the salary mass and generate fresh revenue, which in turn, will help the Catalans fund the return of Messi.

The Argentine, for his part, is also aware of Barcelona’s economic shortcomings and has remained quite patient. It is now up to Barça to make the economic provision and facilitate the return of their prodigal son this coming summer.
