Eden Hazard Could Stay At Real Madrid For Another Year Before Retiring In 2024

According to AS, Eden Hazard is seriously reconsidering his decision of leaving Real Madrid in June. The Belgian initially wished to probe other opportunities to find a way back into competitive football, but now no longer feels the same drive.

Jorge C Picon further brings forth a reason that could be the motivation behind his changed stance. According to the Spanish journalist, Hazard is contemplating retirement from football at the end of his contract in 2024.

The former Belgian international sees himself to have contributed everything he can to the game and the opportunity to hang his boots at his dream club tempts him.

The winger’s latest decision to stay for another year, however, will bear severe repercussions for Real Madrid.

Hazard is the team’s highest earner at €30 million per season and occupies a big chunk of the wage bill. Thus, his continuity could affect the Merengues’ ability to sign players and will alter the administration’s planning for next season.

The winger’s situation at the club has hit a new low this season under Carlo Ancelotti. The former Chelsea star has played less than 150 minutes in La Liga and 331 minutes overall this season and has spent most of his time on the bench.

Earlier this season, the out-of-favour winger spoke openly about his poor relationship with the manager. Days later, Ancelotti confirmed the same in his press conference and it is safe to say that he does not have a way back into the side.

Los Blancos hope that the player can engineer an exit in June. Considering the interest in his signing from the USA and Saudi Arabia, the possibility is not ruled out.

Yet, given the hardships he has faced in recent years, one would give retirement a higher chance than a fresh start.
