Ellie Roebuck: Ederson Has All The Attributes A Goalkeeper Wants
Manchester City Women goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck said Ederson has “everything in his locker” which was highlighted in our 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg.
A night to remember at the Etihad saw our aggregate score against Carlo Ancelotti’s side end 5-1 after a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu the week prior.
And Roebuck, who was one of the special guests on Wednesday night’s Matchday Live show, dissected the Brazilian’s attributes prior to kick-off.
“We see him now, he’s making huge saves in important times. The save against Bayern Munich, the two saves in the last leg. And also what he brings that’s so unique is his in possession play.
“He’s so intelligent that he knows the players around him, he can just pop it to one side or the other. To have that ability and be so comfortable stood on the ball knowing that he’s got everything in his locker, must be nice!”
Her pre-match analysis was proven right, as Ederson excelled in the commanding victory over Madrid, with two saves in particular worth highlighing.
Toni Kroos tested Ederson in the first half with a long-range shot which clipped the goalkeeper’s fingers before thundering off the crossbar.
And it was another shot from range which called Ederson into action again in the second half. David Alaba’s 25-yard free-kick flew towards the City goal with pace but Ederson palmed the ball over the bar with confidence.
Roebuck was impressed with our No.23 and the players in front of him and highlighted City’s dominating display all over the pitch as one of the best games City have ever had.
“City were playing like they were literally playing down the park against a team that’s won it [Champions League] 14 times.
“I think that’s the magnitude of how good this performance tonight was, regardless of the opposition,” said Roebuck.
“You look at the experience Madrid have and they couldn’t even handle City so for me, they are unstoppable.”
