Luka Modric has never kissed a badge with the passion that he feels for the Real Madrid crest. Along the same lines, it is safe to assume that the legendary midfielder will never again feel the same passion for any future club.
Despite being all of 37 years old, the veteran is one of the guiding pillars of Carlo Ancelotti’s setup. His prominence may have reduced in recent games, but he is still one of the manager’s most trusted resources in the squad.
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Modric is completely in love with Real Madrid and does not even contemplate leaving the club in the summer. However, with his contract formally running out in June, the ball is in the Galacticos’ court to decide his future.
Keeping Croatian International in the dressing room would not appear to be a harmful idea in any way, for Modric would act as an able guide to any incoming signings.
Further, his presence would help ease the midfield transition as opposed to the conventional situation where a veteran’s continuity acts as an obstacle.
Going by his form ahead of the World Cup, a renewal offer seemed imminent for Modric. However, he has been far from his best since his return to club football and has seen his starting spot taken by Dani Ceballos in recent games.
In 19 La Liga games for Los Blancos this season, the former Ballon d’Or winner has scored three goals and provided two assists. Further, he has created seven big chances and averages 1.4 key passes every ninety minutes.
Real Madrid will wait until deeper into the season before deciding on the veteran’s future, for it will completely depend on his form and level. Any renewal there on would only be for a period of one year.
