Gavi Has Privately Confirmed To Xavi That He Will Not Leave This Summer

There has been some concern within the Barcelona faithful over the contract registration of midfield prodigy Gavi. The 18-year-old signed a new deal with the club last year itself, but it has not been registered with La Liga.

While Barça did manage to enroll him as a first-team player in January thanks to a precautionary measure from the court, the registration was overturned last month, with Gavi now back on his youth contract.

It is said that there is a clause in the Spaniard’s contract that would allow him to leave as a free transfer if not registered as a first-team member before July 1.

It has led to interest from clubs like Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City, but Barcelona are understood to be relaxed over the situation as they believe Gavi wants to stay at the club.

And a fresh reporter from David Bernabeu Reverter on SPORT has reaffirmed the same, claiming that Gavi has privately confirmed to manager Xavi Hernandez that he has no intentions to leave Barcelona in the summer.

The report states that Xavi spoke to the teenage academy graduate privately to learn his thoughts amidst the contract registration headache.

It must be noted that in his pre-match press conference before the Getafe game, the manager had stated that there is no better place for Gavi than Barcelona, saying:

“I don’t think Gavi would be happy at a different club, he has everything here at 18 and is an important player for the team. I think his future is here at the club.”

And it is stated that he iterated the same message to Gavi during the private conversation, underlining that Gavi remains a central piece of his project at Barça.

In return, the manager received assurances from the 18-year-old, who confirmed that he has no intentions of leaving the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Gavi is understood to have told the manager that he desires to stay at Barcelona for many years and is happy with his role in the team. The only concern for the midfielder is his contract registration situation which he wants to be fixed.

Xavi, for his part, sees the La Masia ace as a key part of the team for the present and the future, but has asked for improvement in his goalscoring numbers and the final pass.

As far as his immediate future is concerned, Xavi is not concerned about the matter and it is now up to the club to solve the issues at the earliest.
