Gerrit Alan Cole, also known as Gerrit Cole, is an American professional baseball pitcher who plays as a pitcher for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Before New York Yankees, he used to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros.
Born on September 8, 1990, in Newport Beach, California, Gerrit studied at Orange Lutheran High School and was a member of the varsity baseball team.
In 2008, he was selected by the New York Yankees in the first round of the MLB Draft, but instead, he opted to play collegiate baseball for the UCLA Bruins.
After his collegiate career, the Pirates selected him as the first overall pick in the 2011 MLB draft.
In 2013 he made his MLB debut and was named the National League (NL) Rookie of the Month in September.
He joined the Yankees on December 18, 2019, signing a $324 million contract, the largest contract in the history of the major league for a pitcher.
Moreover, Cole is a member of the 2022 class of the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.
