Injury Update: Andreas Christensen and Robert Lewandowski Return To Training Ahead Of Valencia Clash
Toni Juanmarti has provided an update on Barcelona duo Andreas Christensen and Robert Lewandowski ahead of their game against Valencia. Both players had picked up an injury right before Real Madrid vs Barça in the Copa del Rey and missed out on the game.
However, the report claims that both players have returned to training today. Lewandowski is working out alone, while Christensen is already back with the team.
The ex-Chelsea defender was in the squad vs Madrid, too, but his ankle discomfort did not allow him to play a single minute. Marcos Alonso started as a centre-back, instead, and put in a stellar shift alongside Jules Kounde.
Christensen is expected to be in the squad and likely even start the game against Valencia. While Ruben Baraja’s side are sitting in the relegation zone, the historical importance of the fixture would push Xavi to play his best available lineup.
Further, after the loss to Almeria, there is little to no scope to slip up in the league, with Real Madrid breathing down their neck.
As for Lewandowski, the Polish ace will likely miss the Valencia game, as well. His return is scheduled for the Athletic Club clash next weekend, but the club could choose to not rush him and deploy him directly against Real Madrid on 19th.
Apart from these two, Barcelona are also missing the services of Pedri and Ousmane Dembele, both of whom have picked up relatively long muscle injuries.
The Spaniard could make it back in time to face Athletic, but the prospect of that seems unlikely. The same goes for Dembouz, who is expected to get the medical green light for El Clasico.
