Inter Milan Prioritising Barcelona Midfielder For The Summer

It is no secret that Barcelona are facing a tough summer ahead of them. The club are facing immense pressure to offload some of their first-team stars, as La Liga force them to reduce a chunk of the salary mass in order to adhere to Financial Fair Play rules.

One of the players whose departure might help the club generate some much-needed revenue is Franck Kessie. The Ivorian has not enjoyed the best of starts to life in Catalonia, struggling to establish himself as a first-team star under Xavi Hernandez.

Kessie’s failings during the first half of the campaign even led to speculations over a January exit for the midfielder, with Inter Milan among the clubs interested. But the player remained at Camp Nou, with Barcelona themselves not willing to listen to any offers.

That has proven to be a wise move for both parties, as Kessie has experienced redemption since the turn of the year. With Pedri out injured, the Ivorian has seized the opportunity to become one of Xavi’s most trusted players in midfield.

Kessie’s redemption has not gotten unnoticed either, with several Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Aston Villa interested in his services.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, it appears Inter Milan have not given up on the pursuit of the Ivorian either. In fact, the Italian giants are prioritising the signing of the Barcelona star, as part of their plans to reinforce their options in the middle of the park.

Despite the player’s renewed importance in Barcelona, Inter Milan believe Kessie is still a bench player for the Catalans. That is why they are looking to convince the midfielder to jump ship to Inter next season and reunite with his former Milan teammate Hakan Calhanoglu.

Barcelona, though, may not appear as open to selling Kessie as they were in January. But in the midst of an economic crisis, it will be interesting to see whether or not Inter can force the Catalans to cash in.
