Injury Update: Barcelona Defender Ruled Out For Five Weeks, Could Return For Season-End

As if their injury problems were not enough, Barcelona have been dealt with another blow during the final run of the season as Sergi Roberto picked up a hamstring injury against Getafe in the first half yesterday.

The player tried to soldier through the pain during the initial minutes of his knock – which occurred while passing back -, but eventually had to be substituted off for Eric Garcia, who took over the central defence position alongside Ronald Araujo, while Jules Kounde shifted to right-back.

Adria Albets has provided an update on Roberto’s injury, reporting that the player will miss five weeks out of action due to a tear in the hamstring of his left thigh. The player is going through the final medical tests, but there is pessimism regarding the injury.

With a month and a half left before the season ends, Roberto could return in time for the final couple of games of the season.

However, Barcelona have not been dealing with injuries timely this season. Multiple players, including Ousmane Dembele and Pedri have been out for much longer than initially anticipated, picking up relapses in training.

Frenkie de Jong, too, was initially sidelined for just two weeks, and was expected to return in time to face Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

While there is optimism regarding Pedri and de Jong’s injury ahead of their clash against Atletico Madrid next weekend, Dembele is expected to be fit in time for the game against Real Betis on 29th April.

The same goes for Andreas Christensen, who picked up a hamstring knock playing for Denmark during the international break.

Roberto’s absence is a huge blow for Jules Kounde, especially, who will be asked to play at right-back in the final games of the season. And in Christensen’s absence, one of Marcos Alonso and Eric Garcia will continue to get minutes.
