Legend Itumeleng Khune Set To Captain Kaizer Chiefs In Soweto Derby

Amakhosi legend Itumeleng Khune is set to make a welcome return to Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby. In fact, he is likely to be wearing the captains armband.

Khune is likely to resume the captaincy in the Soweto derby against Moroka Swallows on 1 May 2023.

This comes as a result of Brandon Peterson getting SUSPENDED by the PSL.

Our Amakhosi legend is likely to make an eagerly anticipated return to the starting line-up against Swallows.

Therefore, he will also wear the captains armband if he is selected.

Furthermore, Peterson is unavailable as he will has been dished out a one-match ban after accumulating his fourth yellow card of the season against Chippa United.

Amakhosi’s in-form goalie was shown yellow for time wasting in the 85th minute of the match. Also, Keagan Dolly has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Meaning, Arthur Zwane and Amakhosi must select a new keeper and captain. With Khune, he can kill two birds with one stone in this regard since he is an excellent back-up in goal and club captain.

WILL KHUNE START AGAINST ORLANDO PIRATES?

Khune is unlikely to start against the Bucs.

Zwane is likely to opt with the form Peterson in goal since he will be available for selection in this match.

Amakhosi take on the Bucs in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday, 1 May 2023.
