Lionel Messi Ready To Accept A Low Salary To Join Barcelona, Waiting For An Offer

A lot has been said about Lionel Messi’s future beyond the ongoing season and if a recent report from Sique Rodriguez is to be believed, the Argentina captain has agreed to accept a low salary and Barcelona have assured him that they will get the deal done.

Messi, for his part, is willing to join on a reduced wage and is waiting for an offer, while not signing the renewal proposal tabled by PSG.

As reported before, Barcelona’s plan is to sign Messi on an initial two-year contract with a salary of just below €13 million a year, similar to that of Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Lionel Messi is no secret, but in order to accommodate their former captain next season, the management must take severe actions. To begin with, they must comply with the Financial Fair Play rules and adhere to La Liga’s salary cap.

Adjusting to the requirements of La Liga is certainly going to be a tedious task and league president, Javier Tebas, has already mentioned that the team must meet several conditions in order to get this signing done.

“If you ask me the question today, Messi’s return to Barça is very complicated,” said the president.

“We have to see how that will evolve but several conditions would have to be met, Barça players would have to leave, there would have to be a reduction in wages. And then you have to know what salary Messi would have at Barça.”

“Barça are not like PSG, who have a gas and money tap that allows them to have a large payroll. As we speak, it’s complicated for Messi to return to Barça,” he added.

Tebas’ words may sound bitter, but in all honesty, Barcelona have plenty of things to clear up. The roster is already too big and considering the fact that several players are set to return from their loan spells at the end of the season will only make life difficult for the management.

For now, Barcelona are currently waiting for a response from La Liga on their economic viability plan. Once that is done, expect the management to begin the proceedings of Messi’s return.
