Manchester United Reportedly ‘Edging Closer’ To Agreement To Sign Rasmus Højlund

Manchester United are reportedly ‘edging closer’ to an agreement to sign Atalanta striker, Rasmus Hojlund.

United’s need to add a new striker to their ranks is glaringly obvious, with the club having struggled for goals at times last season, scoring just 58 times in the Premier League last term.

Marcus Rashford was the club’s top scorer with 30 in all competitions – including 17 in the league – while Anthony Martial spent most of the season on the treatment table and Wout Weghorst only scored twice during his loan spell following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo last November.

The Red Devils were linked with Harry Kane earlier in the window, but abandoned their pursuit of the England captain given Tottenham’s valuation, and have seemingly moved onto Atalanta’s Hojlund.

The Dane has impressed during his first season for La Dea, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 34 outings for the club, and establishing himself as first choice striker for his country too, scoring six in six since his debut last September.

United made a verbal offer for the forward worth €60m (£51.5m) earlier this week, and according to Sky Sports, the clubs are ‘edging closer’ to an agreement.

They say the clubs are ‘working on a compromise on a fee’ with Atalanta, who are said to value the player at €70m (£60m) plus performance-related add-ons.

Manchester United are said to remain ‘very hopeful’ that a deal can be reached for the 20-year-old ‘well in advance of the new season’ that kicks off on August 14th.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has said that United have improved on their opening offer, and ‘want to close the deal ASAP’.

PSG are also interested in the Denmark international and made a €50m bid on Thursday, though the player is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford having already admitted that he is a ‘huge’ United fan.
