Marc Marquez Terminates Contract With Honda After Several Years

  • Six-time world champion mutually terminates contract with Honda.

Marc Marquez will leave Honda at the end of the season after 11 years and six MotoGP titles at the team.

The Spaniard, 30, who joined Honda in 2013, has not won a title in four years and has one year left on his contract.

“Both parties agreed it was in their best interests to each pursue other avenues in the future to best achieve their respective goals and targets,” said Honda.

“We shared unforgettable moments,” said Marquez.

“Six World Championships, five Triple Crowns, 59 victories, 101 podiums and 64 poles. Hard work, determination and bond we have built over the years.

“Laughs, tears, joys, hard moments, but most importantly: a unique and unrepeatable relationship. Separated, but always together!”

Marquez became the youngest MotoGP champion of all time in 2013, winning the title in his first year of premier racing.

He then dominated MotoGP from 2016-2019 – winning the series four years in a row by beating riders of the calibre of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, who have secured a combined 14 world titles.

Since then he’s battled injuries and challenges with his RC213V bike, finishing just four races this season.

Marquez is expected to join his brother Alex at Gresini Ducati next year.
