Most Kaizer Chiefs fans seem to want the legend to say while a section of the fanbase feels it is time for Erick Mathoho to move on. Here is the latest update from coach Arthur Zwane.
KAIZER CHIEFS TO KEEP ERICK MATHOHO
After just a single appearance last season, we all thought it was curtains for the 32-year-old Mathoho as a Glamour Boy.
The June/July transfer window came and went as Amakhosi brought in new central defenders while “Tower” remained as his legendary peers drove out of Naturena for the final time.
According to Zwane, the defender from Tshiombo, Thohoyandou, is staying put beyond the current transfer window.
“Eric [Mathoho] is definitely part and parcel [of the team]. He played a huge role in the past and even now,” Zwane said via FARPost.
“He’s just unfortunate not only him, he’s one of the players that have been injury prone this season. Last week or two weeks ago, if I’m not mistaken, we were preparing him for a game, and, he couldn’t make it because of a toe injury.
“We thought he would be fully recovered last week; he started jogging; when we thought he was ready, it [injury] troubled him, then we had to rest him until up to now, he hasn’t recovered fully,” Zwane concluded.
In other news, the Sea Robbers have turned their gaze on a widely reported Chiefs target.
As it was widely reported in recent months, Amakhosi have been linked with TS Galaxy’s highly-rated central defender Given Msimango, especially with the likes of Erick Mathoho and Thabani Dube linked with departures out of Naturena. “Orlando Pirates are widening their search for a top defender,” the report said.
