Barcelona winger Raphinha has emerged as a target for clubs in the Premier League heading into the summer transfer window. And one of the interested parties, Newcastle United, are offering €80 million to sign the 26-year-old Brazilian international.
This report comes from Gerard Romero, who states that Newcastle United have sent in a verbal proposal of around €80 million to lure Raphinha away from Barcelona.
The Brazilian joined Barça only last summer, arriving from Leeds United in a deal worth €65 million (including add-ons). After a slow start to the campaign, the winger has grown in stature in the second half of the season, especially during the period when Ousmane Dembele was injured.
Raphinha, so far, has produced a tally of ten goals and 11 assists in all competitions and is seen as an important player by manager Xavi Hernandez. However, given the club’s financial situation, a sale could be on the cards if a mammoth offer were to arrive.
Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United were said to be interested in signing the 26-year-old. And it seems like the Magpies have already made their first move by proposing a deal worth €80 million for the Barcelona winger.
Romero further goes on to add that La Liga are already aware of the €80 million proposal from Newcastle United as it was already included in the economic viability plan that Barcelona have sent to them.
If true, this is a huge development as it indicates that Barcelona would be serious about the possibility of selling Raphinha. And if Newcastle, indeed, have offered €80 million, they may very well accept the proposal to offload the former Leeds United star.
