Report: Atletico Madrid Interested In Signing PSG Midfielder In The Summer

According to reports from Abdellah Boulma, Atletico Madrid are among the clubs interested in signing Carlos Soler. Paris Saint-Germain are willing to part ways with the Spanish midfielder in June, making the transfer a real possibility.

Soler underwent his formal youth training through the ranks of Valencia’s academy in Spain. In 2015, he was promoted to the Mestalla-based side’s B team before making the jump to La Liga in 2017.

After his full-time registration as a first-team player, Soler began making headlines with his calm, yet impactful performances from the middle of the park. Not only was he an able asset down the middle but also a real threat in front of goal.

His market value eventually soared and he was seen as the next big Spanish magician. Clubs including FC Barcelona were in the race for his signing but in the end, he boarded the flight to France.

It was in September 2022 that the 26-year-old made the move to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 for a fee of €18 million. The move was then seen as a bargain considering the player’s age and unique skillset.

However, this season, Soler has started 14 games and made 22 appearances for the Parisian giants in Ligue 1, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the process. Further, he has created two big chances with an average of 0.6 key passes per game.

It is clear that PSG see him as a rotation player at best. In the club’s six UEFA Champions League games, Soler averaged just 27 minutes per game and started just twice.

The midfielder’s contract with the French club runs until the summer of 2027, and Christophe Galtier’s side will certainly want to recoup a large part of their investment. The only question is whether Los Rojiblancos be willing to shell out a fee given their economic situation.
