Barcelona aim to complete three signings in the upcoming summer transfer window in an attempt to make the team competitive on all fronts again.
The Catalan revolution began last summer but is clearly incomplete as the team lacks sufficient depth to compete strongly on multiple fronts.
The top priority come June could be the right-back position. Manager Xavi Hernandez has been reliant on Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde to do the defensive work down the right this season but wishes to move them as the permanent centre-backs next term.
Juan Foyth is a player the administration admire on this front. The Villarreal player possesses the profile Barcelona desire and is a versatile option. However, his massive release clause of €54 million limits the Catalans’ pursuit of him.
Joao Cancelo, Thomas Meunier, Benjamin Pavard, and Diogo Dalot are some of the players who are on the radars of the Blaugrana ahead of the next season.
Further ahead on the field, the midfield is seen to be in a bit of a pickle. Xavi feels he needs one more midfielder in his camp, which could become two in the event of Sergio Busquets’ departure.
The dream target in the position is Martin Zubimendi, but the La Liga midfielder’s signing is not seen as financially feasible. Thus, Barcelona see Ilkay Gundogan as the next best option.
Finally, there is an urgent need for a new striker to keep Robert Lewandowski on his toes. The Polish striker has been inconsistent in recent months, and Barcelona wish to sign a backup name to strengthen the position.
Once again, the top target Vitor Roque is under a cloud of doubt because of economic restrictions. If the Blaugranas cannot secure the Atletico Paranaese striker’s signing, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang would be an ideal backup.
With a return for Lionel Messi also being lined up, it remains to be seen how Barcelona go about their business in the summer while navigating the FFP issues.
