Report: Barcelona Will Ask La Liga To Reschedule Atletico Madrid Fixture

Spanish news publication Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Barcelona will ask La Liga to move their La Liga game against Atletico Madrid to another hour as its schedule coincides with the busy Sant Jordi festival hours.

Barcelona face Atletico Madrid on April 23, with the kick-off slated at 4:15 pm. On the same day, the capital city of Catalonia will celebrate the Sant Jordi festival, which happens to be a combination of culture and romanticism.

On the occasion, books and flower stalls will be set up along the streets of Barcelona, making the city quite populated with footfall. As a tradition, thousands of people will fill the streets of Barcelona to buy books and roses.

So in order to avoid traffic on matchday, Barcelona will make a request to La Liga that the match should be moved to another hour.

Before putting their heads into the Atletico game, however, Barcelona are currently bracing for the upcoming El Clasico. With a 1-0 advantage, the Blaugrana are scheduled to host Real Madrid for the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg tonight.

Speaking of El Clasico, Barcelona are set to be without Frenkie De Jong, Pedri, Andreas Christensen and Ousmane Dembele as all of them are nursing their respective injuries. On the other hand, Raphinha, who missed the league game against Elche due to suspension, is back in the squad.

In order to compensate for the loss, Xavi has called up young talents like Angel Alarcon, Estanis Pedrola, Marc Casado, and Aleix Garrido for the fixture. As far as Madrid are concerned, left-back Ferland Mendy remains the only absentee for the fixture.

Once this is done, Barcelona will have two league matches, against Girona on April 10 and Getafe on April 15 before taking on Atletico Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou.
