Report: Lamine Yamal Renewal Is 95% Done, Will Pen A Three-Year Contract

According to journalist Toni Juanmarti on the Siempre Positivo Podcast, Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal’s contract renewal is 95% done. The 15-year-old academy gem will be signing a three-year deal as per the update.

Yamal made history last weekend when he made his first-team debut for Barça against Real Betis, as he became the youngest-ever player to do so, at the age of 15 years.

The teenage forward has been a regular in first-team training sessions under Xavi Hernandez in recent months and was given his first minutes on Saturday, while he could see some involvement later tonight when Barcelona play CA Osasuna.

Yamal’s growth and limitless potential have not gone unnoticed, with clubs across Europe casting admiring glances towards him.

The fact that he will turn 16 in July at which point he can sign his first professional contract has meant that some teams have been looking to swoop him away.

However, Barcelona have been working on tying Yamal down with a new contract for a while now, and Juanmarti reports that the extension is 95% sealed at this point.

This claim aligns with reports that emerged on Monday stating that Yamal had already given his ‘yes’ to renewing his contract with the Blaugrana as he wants to continue at the club.

Talks with Yamal’s new agent, Jorge Mendes, are understood to be progressing well, and his renewal seems to be taken care of.

The update from Juanmarti also specifies that Yamal would be signing a three-year contract, which would mean he will be tied down at Barcelona until 2026.

Given that he is already in the first-team dynamics, the 15-year-old is very much expected to be on the flight to the USA for the pre-season tour this summer. And, following that, Yamal could see increased involvement under Xavi, who rates the prodigy very highly.
