Report: Lionel Messi Is ‘Seriously Considering’ Returning To Barcelona In The Summer

Another day and Lionel Messi is still not close to renewing his contract with PSG, which continues to fuel speculations about a possible return to Barcelona.

Earlier this week, Gerard Romero reported that the 35-year-old was keen to come back to his old stomping grounds and did not wish to renew with PSG.

Now, RAC1 has corroborated those claims, stating that Messi is, indeed, ‘seriously considering’ the possibility of returning to Barcelona in the summer transfer window. It states that the chances of him signing a new contract with PSG have cooled down a lot.

The report claims that Messi was not initially considering the idea of a return given how his exit was handled in 2021. However, that feeling has seemingly changed now and he is giving serious thought to the possibility of coming back to Catalonia.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or is attracted to a move to Barça both on a sporting level and on a personal level. At the same time, he is also aware that a return to Camp Nou would be difficult given the Catalans’ Financial Fair Play situation.

Sources from the club have indicated to the aforementioned outlet that there are no open negotiations between the two parties as of yet.

Meanwhile, La Liga sources have also suggested that the possibility of Messi coming back to Barcelona is not completely off the table. But the club will have to generate a big income apart from reducing salaries in order to accommodate such an operation.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have been working behind the scenes to find solutions for the issues. At the same time, several players have already appealed to Messi to come back, while manager Xavi Hernandez also has plans to fit him into the team.
