REPORT: RANGERS ‘EAGER’ TO SIGN 31-YEAR-OLD BUT HE IS LIKELY TO SIGN NEW DEAL.

CalcioMercato claim Rangers are ‘eager’ to keep Aaron Ramsey, but he is likely to sign a new Juventus deal, with the Old Lady keen to reduce his wages. The Gers are planning to stage talks with Juventus in the summer.

Ramsey, 31, is out of contract at Juventus in the summer of 2023. His Juventus spell has been a disaster but he is back fit at Rangers and showing a bit of form – scoring two goals in his last two starts, the last against Celtic.

Rangers are impressed, as per the report. CM claim that the Gers are ‘eager’ to sit down with Juventus and extend his stay at Ibrox. But they claim that the biggest likelihood is that he will sign a new contract at Juventus.

Juve are desperate to reduce his wages – and would like nothing more than Rangers to sign him permanently but due to his pay cheque, it is a deal that would be ‘difficult’ to do. Ross Wilson thinks he is “wonderful”.

Rangers cannot afford to sign Ramsey unless he is willing to dramatically reduce his wages and with another 12 months on big wages, the chances are he will be unwilling to do so. Similarly, it is unlikely he signs a Juve deal.

So, it might be that Ramsey is willing to remain at Rangers on loan for the entire 2022-23 season – until he becomes a free agent and then a permanent deal stands more chance. That is likely to be Rangers approach, amid talks.
