Report: Reason Why Barcelona Consider Juan Foyth’s Signing Impossible

Journalist Toni Juanmarti has confirmed that Juan Foyth’s move to Barcelona is looking ‘almost impossible’ due to several reasons working against the Blaugrana.

Given Barcelona’s ongoing hassle to comply with the Financial FairPlay, signing Foyth remains a distant dream despite the fact that the management holds the Argentina international in high regard.

The player commands a high fee, which is easily the primary reason Barça will have to stop their pursuit.

Barcelona’s interest in the Villarreal full-back dates back to the January transfer window. The Catalan has been on the lookout for a right-back ever since and with the summer transfer window now approaching, the hunt is going to be more extensive than ever.

As far as Foyth is concerned, he is contracted with Villarreal until 2026 and has a release clause worth €54 million which is simply impossible for Barcelona to activate at this point.

But if they do decide to splash the capital on his acquisition, other areas that need strengthening will be affected.

Juanmarti also says Barcelona are looking to sign a more offensive right-back, with Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo covering that position defensively.

Finally, while the Catalans have had contacts with the Villarreal defender, they have since gone cold, and are at pretty much a standstill right now.

And although Foyth is still in good books, his arrival is next to impossible for the aforementioned reasons.

For now, Barcelona continue to evaluate their options and it is more than certain that they will not go big in signing a right-back as acquiring a certain Vitor Roque remains at the top of their agenda. It is understood that the young Brazilian may cost them anywhere around €40 million.

Speaking of the right-back spot, one must remember that Barcelona will welcome Sergino Dest back from his loan spell at the end of the season. The former Ajax full-back will return with clouds of uncertainty hanging over his head.

Given his reputation with Xavi, one can anticipate that he will either be sold in the summer or will once again find a new team on loan for the rest of the season. Be that as it may, as far as Foyth is concerned, that chapter is closed for Barcelona.
