Sergio Aguero Believes There Is A ‘50% Chance’ That Lionel Messi Will Return To Barcelona

Former Barcelona and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero has claimed that he believes there is a 50% chance that Lionel Messi will return to the Catalan club next summer.

Messi’s future has become a topic of much discussion and debate with his contract at PSG expiring at the end of the season. There had been claims of an agreement over a renewal, but the mood around the possible extension has changed in recent weeks.

Messi is no longer said to be prioritising signing a new contract with the Parisians while PSG themselves have some doubts about offering him a new deal.

Amidst this, the chances of a potential return to Barcelona are growing as the 35-year-old does not want to leave Europe.

And, Aguero, who is a very close friend of Messi, is of the opinion that the Argentina captain should retire at Barcelona and believes that there is a 50% chance that the return will materialise this summer.

“I think Leo Messi should retire at Barça. This is his home and he would have to finish his career here. My feeling is that there is a 50% chance that he will come back to Barcelona,” Aguero said on a stream (h/t SPORT).

However, the former Barcelona striker added that the first move must come from president Joan Laporta, considering that their relationship had strained following Messi’s exit in 2021.

“I think that Laporta has to try and bring back Leo Messi. He has to make an effort to bring him, because Leo should retire in Barcelona,” Aguero added.

In the same stream, former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique added that he would love to see the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner back at Camp Nou, saying: “I would love it if Leo Messi came back to Barcelona. I would love to give him a hug.”

A lot will depend on how Barça’s Financial Fair Play situation is for them to re-sign Messi. But, as things stand, the possibility of a comeback seems to gaining weight with each passing day.
