Tottenham Hotspur Announce The Signing Of James Maddison

  • Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of James Maddison from Leicester City.

The Lilywhites have beaten off interest from Newcastle United to acquire the 26-year-old, signing him on a deal until 2028 for a fee of £40m plus add-ons.

With his previous contract at Leicester set to expire in June 2024, The Foxes were initially holding out for a £60m fee, however decided to accept Spurs’ first bid worth around £40m guaranteed plus potential add-ons, according to The Athletic.

Since signing at the King Power stadium from Norwich in July 2018, The England international has been a key creative outlet in their side. Especially in the most recent Premier League season, where his 10 goals and nine assists in 30 Premier League appearances weren’t enough to save the midlands side from relegation to the EFL Championship.

Following the acquisition of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli being announced earlier this week, Maddison is now new head coach Ange Postecoglou’s second signing in charge of the North London side, as they look to rebuild their squad and improve upon their eighth place finish last season.
