Tottenham Hotspur Defender Emerson Royal Set To Undergo Knee Injury, Could Miss Rest Of Season

Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal could miss the rest of the season through injury, reports the Sun.

The Brazil international injured his knee during Saturday’s 2-1 friendly loss to Morocco.

Royal is set to undergo surgery and could miss up to six weeks of action or more.

The 24-year-old earned a recall to the national team after his impressive form since the turn of the year.

The right-back started the game against the African country but limped off in the closing stages of the game.

Royal has featured in 32 games across all competitions for Spurs this term.

He has scored twice and assisted another but has recently lost his starting berth to January signing Pedro Porro.

The Spaniard has played seven games across all competitions since joining Tottenham during the winter transfer window.

Spurs recently sacked Italian manager Antonio Conte, with Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason placed in charge until the season.

The new management could make some changes to the starting XI and hand all the players a clean slate.

Royal would have fancied his chances of forcing his way back into the starting line-up.

However, the injury comes as a huge blow and he may not see action again this term.

Spurs have a lot of injury concerns, with Ben Davies also set to spend extended time on the sidelines.

Hugo Lloris, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Ryan Sessegnon are yet to return from the treatment room.

Royal’s international teammate Richarlison also got injured before the international break.
