Xavi Hernandez ‘Loves’ Barcelona Academy Product Nicknamed ‘Little Professor’

“I’m very happy. The debut with the first team was just the start, now the renewal. I hope this lasts for many years. This season I have gone through many teams. I’m learning a lot,” an ecstatic Aleix Garrido said after sealing his renewal as a Barcelona player earlier this week as revealed by SPORT.

The prodigy’s extension has been on the Catalan club’s agenda for a long time but it was only yesterday that they could put pen to paper and secure his future until 2025.

After all, Garrido is a player largely seen as one who is here to stay with the perfect blend of natural talent and hard work.

According to reports from SPORT, Garrido is nicknamed ‘The Little Professor’ within Barcelona. His deep understanding of tactics and special footballing IQ have earned him that title and it is also one of the reasons why first-team boss Xavi Hernandez loves the player.

After all, the current Barcelona manager was also known for his deep understanding of on-field dynamics during his time as a player. In fact, many of his ex-teammates have come out to speak about his deep involvement on the tactical side of football, a precursor to his managerial career.

Garrido is too young to be in the discussions for a job on the sidelines. However, one cannot deny that his understanding of the game is one of the many assets that enables him to be so decisive on the field.

From arriving at Spotify Camp Nou in 2012 to making his debut for the first season, Garrido has come a long way. Yet, it is just the start of a special career in the grander scheme of things.

The youngster’s new contract sees him commit his future to Barcelona until the summer of 2025 with a release clause of €400 million active.
