Barcelona Yet To Receive A Response From La Liga Towards Their Economic Viability Plan

Last Wednesday, Barcelona officials met with La Liga to know whether or not they can validate the economic viability plan that they presented to get a better understanding of the situation.

At the moment, Barcelona are sweating over several issues, including the registrations of Gavi and Ronald Araujo. On top of that, contract extensions of Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso are also pending.

The problems certainly do not end there for the team. As long as they do not receive a firm answer from the league, their plans of acquiring Lionel Messi, Inigo Martinez, and Ilkay Gundogan will continue to be up in the air.

It has been almost a week since Mateu Alemany and Ferran Olive met with Javier Gomez, corporate general director of La Liga and in charge of reviewing the accounts of the clubs in the fair play, and Oscar Mayo, executive director of La Liga, and the team still has not received a response from the administration, reports Mundo Deportivo.

This comes after some reports suggested that La Liga had already responded to the plan and decided not to accept it.

During the meeting last week, Barça were reminded that they must reduce their wage bill to €200 million in order to consider the return of Lionel Messi and incorporate those whose contracts are still pending.

After the meeting, Barcelona announced that Barça TV will be closed for good on June 30, from which they could save around €13 million per year.

As far as Messi is concerned, there is still no news regarding his next season’s destination. At present, despite not having a formal proposal from Barcelona yet, he has not set any deadline to decide his future.

The Argentina captain understands the Bluagrana are quite serious about his acquisition but things are pretty difficult at the moment. Until there is a positive response from La Liga, Barça cannot table a contract offer to Messi.

While there was a lot of optimism about the possible green light on the economic viability plan over the last week, some concerns are understood to have set in of late as Barcelona have a feeling that it could be very difficult to match La Liga’s expectations.
