Bayern Munich Plan Benjamin Pavard Extension Among Barcelona And Chelsea Interest

Bayern Munich are planning to extend the contract of Benjamin Pavard, whose current deal expires in 2024, according to a report from La Voix du Nord.

There has been growing speculation that the Frenchman could part ways with the Bavarians at the end of the season after expressing his desire to explore a new project.

Barcelona are among the potential suitors, as he recently claimed that he would love to represent the Catalan giants in the future.

Joao Cancelo’s surprise loan move to Allianz Arena from Manchester City in the January transfer window also sparked further uncertainty about Pavard’s future.

Inter Milan explored a move for the French defender last month as they were seemingly preparing for the departure of Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, none of the transfers materialised, with Bayern rejecting the Nerazzurri’s loan offer with an option to buy Pavard in the summer.

The 26-year-old joined the Bavarians in 2019 and has since made more than 100 appearances. He was part of the squad that lifted the continental treble under Hansi Flick in 2020.

Pavard recently caused a stir by storming out of the training ground as a result of getting dropped to the bench for a couple of games. He also had been continuously annoyed at playing at right-back rather than his preferred centre-back role.

He was also involved in a bust-up with France head coach Didier Deschamps during the 2022 World Cup, which saw him axed for the rest of the tournament after the first game against Tunisia.

However, Pavard remains an important figure for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, having made 26 appearances in all competitions this term.

The former Lille star’s future depends on whether Bayern buy Cancelo permanently from Man City in the summer.

Barca and Inter will battle for him in the summer. They are well aware of Pavard’s ability, as he scored against both sides in the Champions League this season.
