Report: Lionel Messi Not In Favour Of Renewing His Contract With PSG

In a huge development, Depredict is reporting that PSG superstar and former Barcelona captain Lionel Messi is not in favour of renewing his contract with the French champions currently.

Messi has less than five months left on his two-year contract with PSG, which he signed in 2021 after leaving Barcelona on a free transfer.

Over the past month or so, there have been conflicting reports doing the rounds over the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner’s stance on a new contract with PSG.

Several outlets have been claiming that Messi has already reached an agreement in principle to remain at PSG for at least another season.

However, at the time, there have been claims that the 35-year-old is reconsidering his future after the World Cup triumph in December and might not sign a new deal with the French champions.

Now, according to Depredict, the latter situation might be true, as the journalist states that Messi, at this moment, is not favouring penning a new contract with PSG.

The report states that the two parties had been closing in on an agreement, but the seven-time Ballon d’Or is now considering an exit. And although his continuity is not entirely ruled out, it is not the option that he currently favours.

With still several months left on his contract, things could change. But, at this point, Messi would be leaning towards an exit, claims Depredict.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a potential move to bring Messi back to the club. Reports have suggested that the club have carried out studies to gauge the impact that the Argentina captain’s return would have and are prepared for ‘all scenarios’.

However, Financial Fair Play issues will be a major hurdle in any possible move that Barcelona consider to re-sign Messi at the end of the season.

At this point, what seems clear is that the 35-year-old’s contract renewal with PSG might not be as advanced as it has been previously reported, leaving the door slightly ajar for an exit.
