Erik Ten Hag Provides Luke Shaw Update Following Early Substitution Against Brentford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed he didn’t want to take any risks with Luke Shaw after he was substituted in the first half of their 1-0 win against Brentford on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils won their first Premier League game since February with a narrow victory against the high-flying Bees, with Marcus Rashford scoring the winner midway through the first half.

Shortly after his decisive strike, Shaw was seen hobbling and touching his hamstring on the touchline and was swiftly replaced by Tyrell Malacia at left-back.

Speaking at a post-match press conference, Ten Hag stated this quick reaction was to protect Shaw, but they won’t know the extent of the injury until Thursday at the earliest.

“I can’t say in this moment [what the injury is],” Ten Hag said.

“I have to wait for tomorrow [to find out] what the diagnosis is. I took him straight off, didn’t want to risk. But we have to wait what’s the outcome.”

Games Luke Shaw could miss through injury

Shaw signed a new contract with United running until 2027 this week and Ten Hag spoke of his lofty standing among left-backs in the game.

This injury will serve as a crucial blow with United facing a rather busy run-in, competing on three fronts.

Here are the upcoming games in April that Shaw is in danger of missing.
