REPORT; £17M PSG STAR WANTED BY TOTTENHAM.

Jeunes Footeux claim that Tottenham are interested in raiding Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield at PSG for Idrissa Gueye. The 90-time Senegal star is about to enter the last 12 months of his contract with the French outfit.

Gueye, 32, has spent his career in French and English football and is proven in the Premier League – having been brought to Aston Villa in 2015 by ex-Spurs boss Tim Sherwood, and then signed by Everton a year later.

He has 134 appearances in the Premier League under his belt during his four years in England – before joining PSG in the summer of 2019. He has since played 110 times for the French champions, winning six honours.

Gueye remains a crucial part of PSG’s side despite huge midfield competition from the likes of Leandro Paredes – who has also been linked with Spurs – Marco Verratti, Gini Wijnaldum and Danilo Pereira.

But Gueye has become a substitute of late, and now, he might want a new challenge. PSG are willing to let him go for a fee of £17million, and will have to sell him this summer in order to bring in cash for the midfielder.

Gueye has wonderful stamina, and more than 500 senior appearances for club and country. But he turns 33 in September, and is earning £96,000 (Mail) at PSG. At £17million, he is still somewhat expensive.

Gueye might not even fancy a move to Spurs himself – given Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg would likely remain first choice. Spurs will be in Europe next season, so there will be plenty of games to play.

But Gueye is entering the latter stages of his career and £17million for a player of his age is pricey, as are his wages. Spurs should only bring him in if they can reduce those numbers – closer to £10million, perhaps.
