Report: Barcelona Coaching Staff Interested In Real Madrid Winger, But Have Other Priorities

The transfer links between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio refuse to go away completely.

The Spaniard, who is in the final few months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, had previously flirted with the idea of a move to Camp Nou. The fact that he is represented by Jorge Mendes, who has close ties with Barça president Joan Laporta, only served to fuel the speculations.

However, things had gone quiet in recent weeks and it seemed that Asensio would likely renew his contract and continue in Madrid.

But, according to SPORT, the Spanish international is growing disgruntled over his lack of game-time in recent matches, casting doubts over his continuity at Real Madrid beyond this season.

Asensio had gained prominence under Carlo Ancelotti just before and after the World Cup break. However, he is seemingly out of favour again with the Real Madrid boss refusing to use him in the 0-0 draw versus Real Betis even after having him warm up for half an hour.

Frustrated by the situation, Asensio is frustrated with the manager and Real Madrid, with the report stating that the relationships are quite tense and there is no agreement over a renewal yet.

Clubs like AC Milan and Arsenal are interested and have contacted the winger’s entourage, while Barcelona are also keeping themselves informed of the situation.

The report further states that Asensio would be open to listening to offers from Barça, while the Catalan club’s coaching staff like the 27-year-old forward.

However, as things stand, even though he is seen as a great market opportunity, Barcelona have other priorities in the market. And, hence they do not wish to meddle with his future and any potential negotiations with Real Madrid.

But in case it becomes clear that Asensio will leave Los Blancos, Barça will assess the situation and decide if he would be a viable signing for their project. At the moment, though, the Catalans have not made any move.
